Weldon’s Classes (WW)

Beginning Knitting:            Sundays, Jan 6, 13, 20, Feb 3               10 - 12 PM

Cost: $80

Learn the basic stitches of knitting and purling.  Class project will be a small sweater which will teach you how to use these basic stitches to make patterned knitting.  By the end of class you will be ready to move on to projects like socks, hats and scarves, even sweaters.

Materials: 1 skein light colored worsted yarn, NO VARIEGATED; US 8 24” cable needles; The Knitters Companion book by Interweave; knit gauge ruler; tape measure; tapestry needle; scissors; note-taking materials.

Beginning Crochet:                Wednesdays, Jan 9, 16, 23               6 - 8 PM 

Cost: $60

Learn the basics of crochet or refresh those skills you learned as a child.  After learning the 4 basic stitches we will work on simple washclothes and how to read patterns.

Materials:  1 skein light colored worsted weight yarn, NO VARIEGATED; Size G or H crochet hook; How to Crochet book; note-taking materials

Magic Loop Technique Hat:         Mondays, Jan 7, 21                    4:30 - 6:30 PM  

Cost: $40

If you hate double point needles (DPNs) come and learn the magic loop technique for knitting cylinders of any kind.  We will be knitting a simple hat to learn the technique.  As part of the class we will discuss modifying any pattern which uses DPNs to magic loop.  Once you learn the technique it can be applied to sock, sleeves, or mittens.

Materials:  100 g or 3.5 oz worsted weight yarn; US 7 circular needle, 40-47 inches long, or size to obtain gauge; stitch marker; tapestry needle; note-taking materials

2 At a Time Socks:                Tues, Jan 8, 22, 29, Feb 5                3 - 5 PM

(using Magic Loop Technique)

Cost: $80

Do you have second-sock-itis? Do them both at the same time using the magic loop technique!!  Once I learned to do this I have applied it to mittens, sleeves ... any in the round knitting I need two of.  Students should have some experience with the magic loop technique and sock knitting. Materials:  300 - 350 yards worsted weight yarn; US 5, 40 inches long cable needle or size to obtain gauge of 5.5 stitches per inch; stitch marker; tapestry needle; tape measure; note-taking materials.

Homework before class:  Split your yarn into two equal balls.  Measure the circumstance of the ball of the foot for the person you are making the sock for.  Make a swatch in the round using the needle you need to get a gauge of 5.5 stitches per inch.

Dressing the Loom:               Sat/Sun Jan 26, 27                     10AM - 4:30 PM 

Cost: $100

This class reviews the process of measuring your warp and dressing the loom.  We will be using a worsted weight yarn which has a long variegation as both the warp and weft for the scarf.  This is a perfect class for weavers who have just taken a weaving class and want to go over the process again to help reinforce their habits or an experienced who just needs to review.  The scarf can be woven in plain weave or twill depending on your comfort level.  Purchase of yarn is not included in the price of the class.

Continental Knitting:                  Monday, Jan 28                   4:30 - 6:30 PM

Cost: $25.                                                                                     

Want to speed up your that fancy two strand knitting with both hands...or just wow your knitting buddies with a new skill?  Learn to Knit Continental!  In one session we will teach you the basics to tension and knit with your left hand.   With a bit of practice you will become a picker as well as a thrower and still be grinning.

Open Help Session:                Saturdays, Jan 5, 19, 26              5 - 7 PM 

Cost: $10/session attended

Need help on  a project and there is no class scheduled for that problem?  Or need some help but don't need the chaos of the shop?  This may be your answer.  This two hour session is after closing on Saturday and WW is there to help with your questions on projects.  Not one-on-one but a quiet and supportive environment.  Pay when you come for help.  Open to all levels.

Sixteen Cable Hat:                     Thursday, January 10               11:30 - 1:30 PM             Cost: $25 plus supplies.                                                                          

A slouchy hat with big cables.  Materials:  Yarn 250 - 300 yards of worsted weight yarn; US 6 16” circular and size 8 32” circular; stitch marker; Pattern- Sixteen Cable Hat by Circe Belles Boucles. Homework before class:  With Size 6 needles cast on either 76 (88) for small (adult). Join for working in the round and put a marker at the beginning of the round. K2, P2 for 12 rounds.

Building in Color Panels:     Thursday, Jan 17 OR Saturday, Jan 19       1 - 3 PM                   Cost:  $20 per month plus supplies                                                                

Building in Color introduces new stitches and techniques along with discovering color knitting. Each panel is designed to build your confidence while managing multiple yarns in creating your blanket. The skills learned with all ten panels include- Intarsia, Embroidery, joining a new color, Double Ended Knitting, Short Rows, Knit Below, Make One Purl, Elongated Stitch, Mosaic Knitting, Butterfly Stitch, Intarsia Cable, Tuck Stitch, Seaming, and Borders.

Materials:  936 yards of 3 colors each worsted weight yarn; US 6 24” and 40” circulars; Book - Building in Color; Notions - tapestry needle; stitch markers; cable needle for panel #9; sticky notes 

Building Blocks:             Thursday, Jan 24 OR Saturday, Jan 26            1 - 3 PM                    Cost:  $20 per month plus supplies                                                           

The Building Block series is designed to build your skills as a knitter, a block at a time. Each block builds upon the skills of the last pattern.  At the end of this blanket you will have more confidence and knowledge as well as a beautiful blanket to show off! Skills learned within all 12 blocks - chart reading, yarn overs, bobbles, simple decreases, cables, right twist, mock cables, slip stitches, left twist, ssk, make ones, advanced decreases, seaming.                                                                                         

Materials:  1400 total yards in a worsted weight yarn in 1 or more colors. All blocks can be 1 color or all different colors of your choice (Endless possibilities); US 8 24” circular needle; Notions - Cable needle; Stitch markers; Tapestry needle; Book- Building Blocks.      

Homework to be done before class: Cast on 48 stitches. Row 1: k1, p1. Row 2: p1, k1. Repeat row 1 and 2 a total of 3 times. (this gives you 6 rows of seed stitches.) 

January Carnation Socks:           Fridays, Jan 25, Feb 1 , Feb 8        11:30 - 1:30 PM           $60 plus supplies                                                                 

Pre-requisites - Magic Loop. Learn some new techniques as you knit January Carnations from the toe up. Classes are limited to 4 students to assure individualized attention.  Come in a week before class if possible to browse the great selection of fingering yarns offered. Skills learned: Turkish cast on, fish lips kiss heel.   Materials:  400 yards fingering weight; US 1.5 32” circulars for magic loop (adjust your needle as necessary to get correct gauge). Gauge - 8 stitches, 10 rows = 1”; Notions - Tapestry needle; Stitch markers. Pattern - January Carnations by Knittablesbydi.

Dottie’s Classes

Sock Blank Class:               Saturday, Jan 26                 11 to 2 PM

Cost:  $75.00

Unique and intriguing color effects can be achieved by learning the basics of dye/painting and color composition.  We will paint a sock blank (knit fabric - 435 yards of it, enough for 1 pair of socks).  Magic happens when you see the color movement on this sock blank.    Immediately after drying the blank, you can start knitting your socks.  BE AN “ARTIST FOR A DAY”.

Materials:  Wear old clothes; if you have a color inspiration, please bring; all other supplies are included. 

BEGINNING WEAVING:           Jan 18, 19, 20, 21          10 - 5 PM (1 hour lunch)

Cost:  $200.00

Learn all you need to know to start weaving independently on a four-shaft floor loom using one of our beautiful new Schacht looms.  Warping, dressing the loom, reading a pattern, weaving plain weave, twills, overshot, epi, ppi, sett are only a few of the skills you will learn. You will weave a sampler of several different patterns. A fun class with lots of TLC.

Materials:  Learning to Weave with  Deborah Chandler; all other supplies are included.

INTERMEDIATE WEAVING:     Jan 18, 19, 20, 2      10 - 5 PM (1 hour lunch)

Cost: $200.00

Start a new journey weaving hand manipulated laces, clasp weft and  double weave.  You will review weaving twills and overshot  just to make sure you  understand what you learned in your Beginning Class.  You will review the warping procedure using the back to front method and plan a new project.  You can see this will be a full and enjoyable class.

Materials:  Learning to Weave with Deborah Chandler; all other supplies are included.

Kir’s Classes

Beginning Pin Loom Weaving:           Saturday, Jan 12th              1:00 - 4:00 PM

Cost:  $30.00

Students will learn how to use the Zoom Loom to make squares and how to sew squares together to make items. We will cover different yarn types to use with the loom, multiple joining techniques, and suggested first projects such as a beginners scarf.

Materials:  1 Zoom Loom; 1 skein of Adriafil Knitcol will be enough to make a thin scarf. Any DK weight yarn will work, no cotton.

Advanced 2-color Pin Loom Weaving   Wednesday, Jan 16       1:00 - 5:00 PM

Cost: $40.00

Students will learn to weave advanced color patterns on the Zoom Loom. Class will also cover joining techniques for different types of projects. Students will be able to make a cowl with the squares from this class. Students should be familiar with how to weave basic squares on the loom.                                                                                        

Materials:  Zoom Loom; 2 skeins of Silky Wool one of each color. High contrast colors will work best; if possible, get the book 100 Pin Loom Squares by Florencia Campos Correa. It is a great companion but not mandatory for the class. All of my squares were done with color: 126 Spring Grass and 189 Eggplant
