This pattern is dedicated to Megan Jacobson.
It was her desire (and begging) for a felt flamingo that led to this beach party.
Size: Finished size is controlled by your yarn choice and the amount of felting. Flamingos in photo are about 12" (30cm) long and 11" (28cm) tall (bottom of body to the top of head).
Yarn Requirements: Choose a worsted weight yarn that will felt easily and firmly.
Yardage: 500 yds (457m) main color and 20 yds (18m) of black. A feathered flamingo requires about 70 - 80 yds (64 - 73 m) of eyelash.
Needles: Straight or circular in US size 10.5 (6.5mm) and short straight needles in US size 11 (8mm).
Gauge: About 13 sts to 4"(10cm) before felting.
It is not necessary to get an exact gauge, but knitting must be loose to felt properly.
With one or more of these cuddly creatures around the house you will never be without someone to hug.

Size: Approximately 7"-10" tall.
Yarn Requirements: Choose a worsted weight yarn that will felt easily and firmly and a thick "fur-like" synthetic novelty yarn.
Yardage: Approximately 165 yards (151m) main wool; 100 yards (91m) of the novelty yarn; 10 yards (9m) of darker wool for paws.
Needles: US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) and size 11 (8 mm) 24" circular needles. Hedgehog is knit in rows. Circular needle is used when knitting the back to accommodate shaping.
Shown in Naturally Tussock 10 ply #161 (main yarn), Perendale #90 (paws) and Temptation #912 for the "fur".
Create an interesting array of baskets, trays and coasters to express your heartfelt feelings. Finish the top with a band of I-cord or picots to personalize each piece. They knit up quickly in worsted or bulky weight yarns.
Sizes: Will vary with yarn weight used.
Baskets shown measure 5" across widest part and 2" deep (worsted wt) and 7" by 2" (bulky wt). Coasters are the same size as bottom of the basket. The smaller red coasters were made in a lighter weight worsted and measure about 4" across.
Yarn Requirements: Use any yarn that will felt to a firm fabric. Shown in a bulky weight wool (large red basket), worsted weight, (pink basket, tray and coasters) and a DK weight (small red coasters).
Approximate yardage needed: Yardage will vary depending on yarn weight, depth of basket and which edge finish option you choose.
Basket: 70 to 90 yards; Tray: 60 to 70 yards; Coasters: 35 to 45 yards.
Needles: 16" (40cm) circular needle in size for your yarn weight.
For worsted wt use size 10 or 10.5 (6 or 6.5 mm).
For bulky wt use size 11 or 13 (7 or 8 mm).
